Port Tangier Envisioning

5 January 2011

Marina Projects Ltd recently provided two marina specialists at a three-day Envisioning Workshop into the future of the Port of Tangier, Morocco.  The process was led by THR, the Barcelona based tourism consultant who has been engaged by the Port of Tangier to lead a process to develop a new masterplan.  The need for the masterplan has come about following the relocation of the bulk of the commercial port activities to a new purpose built port, providing the opportunity for the existing port to have a greater leisure focus.

The envisioning session gathered several panels of experts to cover various topics including, cruise ships, hotels, waterfronts and marinas.

The expert panels involving Marina Projects were required to consider:

  • The potential market for yachting and marinas
  • Identify the type of marina most likely to succeed in Tangier
  • Identify the most suitable development strategy for marine leisure activities to create a world-class destination
  • Identify the critical success factors that the City and Port must meet in order to achieve their aspirations
  • What competitive advantages a marina in Tangier should have.

Commenting on the Envisioning process Mike Ward, Project Director at Marina Projects said:

"It was a pleasure for us to work with Eulogio Bordas, his colleagues at THR and the client team and it is an honour for us to be involved with this exciting project from the outset.  The masterplanning process will no doubt benefit from this envisioning process and this will help to unlock the opportunities that exist in Tangier."
