Marina Projects appointed for Watersports Centre Study
26 April 2010Marina Projects Ltd has been appointed by the London Borough of Havering who are seeking to bring forward a Watersports facility as part of the 'Wildspace' Conservation Park within the Rainham Landfill site - a key project within the London Riverside area. As lead consultants, we are coordinating the activities of ABPmer, Morgan Carey Architects and Davis Langdon, to test the feasibility of delivering a marine leisure facility at the study site.
The study site forms part of the much larger Rainham Landfill site which is currently operated by Veolia ES Limited. Landfill operations are anticipated to cease at the end of 2018 and it is expected that the site will then be leased back to the London Borough of Havering.
The Council and Veolia ES recognise the ability of the site to offer access to the water for a range of water compatible uses whilst complimenting the sensitive nature conservation value of neighbouring habitats and the future use of the current landfill site as part of the Wildspace Conservation Park.
The study is a technical feasibility study into the potential to bring forward a water sports facility and make best use of the potential access to the River Thames. The main study elements require research of the local marine leisure market, consideration of environmental issues and extensive stakeholder consultation which will lead to the identification of the key opportunities and constraints of the site. In light of the constraints and opportunities a range of options will be prepared and working with the project team identification of a preferred option. The study will result in a robust technical feasibility and the preparation of concept proposals for the site.
